The Marburger Bund

The Marburger Bund is the alliance of employed physicians in Germany. As a trade union we engage in creating better working conditions and call for adequate payment of hospital doctors in Germany. With nearly 120.000 members the Marburger Bund is one of the largest doctors’ associations with voluntary membership in Europe. Our members work mainly in hospitals but also in the public health service and in the outpatient sector.

For more than 70 years the Marburger Bund has successfully campaigned for fair payment and family-friendly working conditions. Moreover the trade union supports the promotion of female doctors as well as the improvement of practical medical training for students of medicine. We also support foreign doctors in Germany and give them the information they need for recognition of their medical diplomas. Have a look at our FAQ list in English language:

On an international level the Marburger Bund is a member of the European Federation of Public Service Unions (EPSU), the European Junior Doctors Permanent Working Group (EJD) and the EFMA Forum. Additionally we regularly participate in the meetings of the Standing Committee of European Doctors (CPME) and the World Medical Association (WMA) as an observer.
